The Purdue Boilermakers will play the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Purdue Boilermakers are 8-4 (6-3) this season after they defeated Indiana by a score of 30-16 in their last game. Purdue was out gained by a total of 421-388 and only went 2-9 on third down attempts in the game. The Purdue offense is averaging 28.6 points per game with 280.7 passing yards per game and 125.8 rushing yards per game. Aidan O’Connell has thrown for 3,124 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions for the Boilermakers this season. Devin Mockobee has rushed for 849 yards and eight scores, while Charlie Jones has caught 97 passes for 1,199 yards and 12 touchdowns for Purdue. The Purdue defense is giving up 23.1 points per game with 347.1 yards per game.
The Michigan Wolverines are 12-0 (9-0) this season after they defeated Ohio State by a score of 45-23 in their last game. Michigan gained 530 total yards and forced two turnovers in the win. The Michigan offense is averaging 39.8 points per game with 214.6 passing yards per game and 244.5 rushing yards per game. J.J. McCarthy has thrown for 2,215 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also rushing for 240 yards and four touchdowns for the Wolverines this season. Donovan Edwards has rushed for 687 yards and six touchdowns, while Ronnie Bell has caught 51 passes for 687 yards and two scores for Michigan. The Michigan defense is allowing 12.7 points per game and 262.2 yards per game.
Purdue is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on turf. The over is 8-1 in Purdue’s last 9 games following an ATS win. Michigan is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The over is 13-4 in Michigan’s last 17 neutral site games. The favorite is 5-2 ATS in these two teams last 7 head to head meetings.
Michigan will be without their star running back, Blake Corum, for the rest of the season, but that shouldn’t cause much of an issue in this game. Michigan is clearly the better team and should beat Purdue fairly easily. Michigan is coming off of their best game of the season and will be looking to solidify their seed in the College Football Playoff. Purdue has struggled in their last two games and was barely able to defeat Northwestern and Indiana. I like Michigan to get their ground game going with Edwards and Stokes and their defense will take over in the second half.
