The Syracuse Orange will head up to Chestnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles from Alumni Stadium on RSN. Syracuse and Boston College faced off in every season from 1962 until 2004, then renewed their series when the Orange joined the ACC back in 2011. Syracuse holds the all-time series lead 33-22, but BC has won three of the last five meetings.
Syracuse is 6-5 after falling to Wake Forest in Winston-Salem in Week 12. The Orange’s tough second half of the season continued as they surrendered 44 points to the Demon Deacons en route to a fifth straight loss. Syracuse is scoring 28.1 points per game, while passing for 218.3 yards per game (163rd), and rushing for 141.6 ypg (163rd). The Cuse defense allows 22.6!points per game.
Garrett Shrader returned to the lineup last weekend and nearly got the Orange back in the win column. The junior quarterback went for a season-high 324 yards in the loss to Wake Forest, and there’s a good chance that momentum carries over into this weekend. Shrader has passed for 2,025 yards with 15 touchdowns to six interceptions, he’s rushed for 395 yards and seven more scores.
Sean Tucker recorded his best performance in over a month against the Demon Deacons, gaining 106 yards and scoring twice. After setting the school record for rushing yards last season, the sophomore back leads the Orange with 925 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Oronde Gadsden has been the guy outside for Syracuse, and he leads the team with 48 receptions for 785 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Boston College fell to 3-8 after losing to Notre Dame in South Bend in Week 12. The Golden Eagles were shut out by their longtime rivals and outgained 437-173 along the way. truck first but ultimately took a tumble in. Boston College is scoring 19.4 points per game, while passing for 246.6 yards per game (94th), and rushing for 60.9 ypg (289th). The BC defense is allowing 30.1 points per game.
Emmitt Morehead replaced Phil Jurkovec after the UConn game and returned immediate results. The true freshman threw for 330 yards in back-to-back games versus N.C. State and Duke, and he’ll look to put a rough outing against Notre Dame behind him.
Boston College passes 70% of the time, and it left little opportunity for Pat Garwo to repeat last year’s 1,000-yard performance. The junior back leads BC with 320 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Zay Flowers continues to be a difference maker for the Golden Eagles. After leading BC in receiving for the past two seasons, the senior wideout is on pace to do so for a third straight year after scoring four times in the last three week. Flowers is among ACC leads with 70 receptions for 967 receiving yards and ten touchdowns.
Syracuse jumped out to such a strong start this season, and it was sad to see it cut short so swiftly. This spot should give them a chance to finally stop the bleeding, and avoid the .500 finish with a win over a reeling BC team. Take Syracuse’s spread here.
