The Rice Owls and North Texas face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Apogee Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2021 it was North Texas that secured the big 30-24 victory in overtime. 

Rice comes into this game with a 5-6 record and they have gone 6-5 against the spread. Rice can make a bowl game with a win here, but they need to get the thoughts of the last game out of their head. In the last game against UTSA, the defense was awful and they ended up losing 41-7. Two games ago against Western Kentucky, they were defeated 45-10. Rice is averaging 26.1 points while their defense is giving up 35 points per game. Quarterback TJ McMahon is having a strong season throwing for 2.102 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. At times the turnovers have been an issue. 

On the other side of this matchup is North Texas who sits with a 6-5 record and they have gone 7-4 against the spread. In the last game against UAB the defense struggled giving up 41 points and that led to the defeat. Quarterback Austin Aune completed 15 of his 32 passes for 159 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. North Texas is averaging 35.7 points while their defense is giving up 31.3 points per game. Aune needs to have a big game here, and not turn the ball over.

These are both quarterbacks who can really sling it, and I really don’t trust either of these defenses to be that good.
