The BYU Cougars and Stanford Cardinal face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Stanford Stadium. This is the first meeting between the two teams in recent years. 

BYU comes into this game with a 6-5 record and they have gone 3-8 against the spread. This is a team that was talked about a lot heading into the season, but this has been nothing but a disappointment. BYU’s last game came against Utah Tech, and they were able to secure a 52-26 victory. Quarterback Jaren Hall completed 23 of his 35 passes for 456 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.  BYU is averaging 31.6 points while their defense is giving up 30.4 points per game. On the season Hall has thrown for 3,078 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions. 

On the other side of this matchup is Stanford who sits with a 3-8 record and they have gone 2-9 against the spread. In the last game against California, Stanford only managed 20 points, and they ended up losing by seven points. Quarterback Tanner McKee completed 29 of his 45 passes for 271 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Stanford is averaging 20.9 points while their defense is giving up 31.9 points per game. McKee has been under center for Stanford this season and he has thrown for 2.634 yards, 12 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. 

BYU is 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. Stanford is 3-13 against the spread in their last 16 home games. The Over is 5-1 in the Cougars last 6 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The over is 23-8 in Stanford’s last 31 games following a straight-up loss. 

BYU has struggled this season but they are still the better team here. This Stanford offense is averaging only 20.9 points per game and they are going to struggle to score in this game. Look for BYU to get a big game from Jaren Hall and that will be the difference as BYU gets the job done. Back BYU against the spread.
