The Akron Zips and Northern Illinois Huskies face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Huskie Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2019 it was Northern Illinois that secured the 49-0 victory. 

Akron is finishing off another terrible season and they currently sit with a 1-9 record and they have gone 4-5 against the spread. In the last game against Eastern Michigan, Akron scored 28 points, but the defense gave up 34 points. Running back Cam Wiley has been of the bright spots for this team and in the last game, he finished with 18 carries for 144 yards and three touchdowns. Akron is averaging 19.5 points while their defense is giving up 36.7 points per game. In this game, if Akron wants a chance to win they are going to need the offense to be good again. 

On the other side of this matchup is Northern Illinois who sits with a 3-8 record and they have gone 4-7 against the spread. In the last game against Miami of Ohio, the Huskies only scored 23 points and they ended up losing by six points. Northern Illinois is averaging 28.6 points while their defense is giving up 66 points per game. The offense is ranked 66th, and in too many games this season they have struggled to score. Antario Brown did have a big game in the last one putting up 97 yards on the ground, and in this game they are going to need to have production on the ground. 

The Zips are 5-12-1 against the spread in their last 18 games in November. Northern Illinois is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven conference games. The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between Akron and Northern Illinois. 

Akron’s offense looked good in the last game, and I think they are going to continue the success with scoring here. Look for another big game from Wiley, and that will be enough for Akron to keep this game close. There is a good chance that the Huskies still win this game, but Akron will keep it close. Back Akron against the spread.
