The UTSA Roadrunners will take the four-hour trip to Houston and take on the Rice Owls for a late season, Lone Star battle on ESPN+. UTSA and Rice have faced off in every year since, and the Roadrunners hold a 6-3 lead after winning each of the last six meetings.
UTSA improved to 8-2 after defeating Louisiana Tech at home in Week 10. The Roadrunners clinched their spot in the Conference USA championship with a dominant 44-point win over the Bulldogs, out-gaining them 484-259 along the way. . UTSA scores 38.1 points per game, while passing for 489.6 yards per game (16th), and rushing for 174.9 ypg (96th). The UTiSA defense allows 28.1 points per game.
Frank Harris has been one of the best quarterbacks in the nation this season. The third year starter surpassed the 3,000 yard-mark in the win over Louisiana Tech, he’s tossed 22 touchdowns to six interceptions, and rushed for 354 yards and five scores through ten starts.
Brendan Brady lines up alongside Harris in the backfield, and leads UTSA with 570 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Harris has a great rapport with senior wideouts. Joshua Cephus has scored in each of the past three games and he leads UTSA in receptions (73) and receiving yards (823). Zakhari Franklin scored twice in the win over UAB, and he has 791 receiving yards on 65 catches with a team-lead nine touchdowns.
Rice is 5-5 after losing to Western Kentucky in Bowling Green in Week 11. The Owls were overmatched early, and loss to the Hilltoppers by five touchdowns. They must now defeat UTSA or North Texas to become bowl eligible. Rice is averaging 28.0 points per game, while passing for 227.1 yards per game (138th) and rushing for 152.4 ypg (134th). The Rice defense gives up 34.4 points per game.
TJ McMahon the son of former BYU great QB Jim McMahon, has started most of the season for Rice, but he left the WKU game with an injury, and his status is up in the air for this in-state bout. True freshman Shawqi Itraish stepped in for him last weekend, and tossed a pair of interceptions in the loss.
Cameron Montgomery leads Rice in rushing with 452 yards after an injury to starter Ari Broussard. Bradley Rozner leads the team in receptions (35) and receiving yards (733). Luke McCaffrey, son of Broncos great Ed McCaffrey, has been steady alongside him, catching 51 passes for 656 receiving yards.
UTSA is 6-4 against the spread this season, with a 2-3 record on the road. Rice is 5-5 against the spread this season, with a 4-1 record at home. UTSA is 15-6 ATS in their last 21 road games.
