The Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Vanderbilt Stadium. When these two teams faced off last year it was Florida that secured the 42-0 victory.
Florida comes into this game with a 6-4 record overall and they have gone 6-4 against the spread. It hasn’t been a great season for the Gators, but they have beaten up on the bad teams. In the last game against South Carolina they only gave up six points, and that was enough to win by 32 points. Quarterback Anthony Richardson completed 11 of the 23 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Montrell Johnson had a big game rushing 24 times for 161 yards and a touchdown. The Gators are averaging 31.9 points while their defense is giving up 26.9 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is Vanderbilt who sits with a 4-6 record and they have gone 4-6 against the spread. It hasn’t been a great season, but for Vanderbilt standards, they have played pretty well. In the last game against Kentucky, Vanderbilt scored 24 points and they won by three points. Quarterback Mike Wright completed 12 of his 23 passes for 184 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Vanderbilt is averaging 26.4 points while their defense is giving up 35.2 points per game. Vanderbilt should have some confidence heading into this one, but the defense is going to need to make life tough on Florida.
The Gators are 5-2 in their last seven games. Vanderbilt is 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 games in November. The over is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings played between the two teams. The Gators are 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings against the Commodores.
Florida beat Vanderbilt 42-0 last year, and I expect it’s going to be much like that again here. Florida’s defense was strong in the last game, and they are going to lock down again in this game. Look for Vanderbilt to score a touchdown or less, and that will be enough for Florida to cover the spread.
