The Maryland Terrapins will travel to Happy Valley and take on the Penn State Nittany Lions from Beaver Stadium this Saturday on Fox. Penn State and Maryland have extended history together, as the two schools crossed paths in nearly every season from 1960-1993. Penn State leads a one-sided series 41-3-1, but the Terps did pick up a win in University Park back in 2020.

Maryland is 6-3 after losing to Wisconsin in Madison in Week 10. The Terps welcomed Taulia Tagovailoa back to the lineup, but they ultimately fell victim to traditional Big Ten football. It was rainy and wet, proper ingredients for Wisconsin football, and they dominated Maryland physically, holding them to their lowest offensive output this season. Maryland is averaging 31.4 points per game, while passing for 260.1 yards per game (77th) and rushing for 164.8 rushing yards per game (110th). The Maryland defense is allowing 24.1 points per game.

Taulia Tagovailoa leads the Terps aerial attack, and he’s thrown for 2,078 passing yards with 14 touchdowns to six interceptions through eight starts. Roman Hemby and Antwain Litttleton split the workload for Maryland initially, but Hemby has taken off over the past three weeks. The true freshman rushed for 107 yards in the road win over Indiana, before gashing Northwestern for career-highs of 179 yards and three touchdowns. Hemby now leads the Terps with 747 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while  Littleton has added 317 yards and six scores. Rakim Jarrett leads UMD with 34 receptions, while tight end Corey Dyches leads the team with 376.receiving yards and three touchdown catches.

Penn State is 7-2 after beating Indiana in Bloomington in Week 10. The Nittany Lions pounced on the Hoosiers after finishing the first quarter knotted up at 7, outgaining IU 483-196, en route to a 31-point win. Penn State has scored 33.4 points per game, while passing for 265.7 yards per game (71st), and rushing for 171.4 ypg (99th). The PSU defense allows

Sean Clifford went for a season-high 371 yards versus Ohio State, and he got to enjoy the fourth quarter from the sidelines against Indiana. Clifford will make his 43th career start versus the Terps, and he’s thrown for 2,045 passing yards with 16 touchdowns to seven interceptions and four rushing scores through nine starts.

Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen split the load for Penn State. Singleton scored his third touchdown in as many weeks in the win over IU, and he leads the Nittany Lions in rushing with 679 yards and eight touchdowns. Allen has complimented him well with 558 yards and eight touchdowns. Parker Washington and Mitchell Tinsley are Clifford’s favorite targets. Washington leads the team in receptions (45) and receiving yards (597), while Tinsley is right behind him with 38 catches for 427 yards and a team-lead four touchdowns.

Maryland is 4-5 against the spread this season, with a 2-2 record on the road. Penn State is 6-3 against the spread this season, with a 3-2 record at home. The Terps are 16-35 ATS versus teams with winning records in their last 51.

Penn State has been scoring at a high rate this season, and they should have their way with a Maryland defense that has allowed 23 or more in six of their last eight games. The health of Tagovailoa will be huge here, because if the MD quarterback is ineffective, they will fall victim to the Happy Valley crowd, and this one could get out of hand.

Penn State is going for that 10+ win season, so trust them to get revenge for 2020 at home here and take their spread. Any Big Ten game in the month of November is liable to go under as well, and with the magic number at 59, don’t shy away from both schools failing to cover the total.
