The Liberty Flames and UConn Huskies face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Rentschler Field. This is the first meeting played between the two teams. 

Liberty comes into this game with an 8-1 record overall and they have gone 5-4 against the spread. In the last game against Arkansas, the defense was good giving up only 19 points and that led to the two-point victory. Johnathan Bennett completed 15 of his 25 passes for 224 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Wide receiver Demario Douglas caught seven passes for 145 yards and one touchdown. Liberty is averaging 30 points per game while their defense is giving up 21.2 points per game. The defense is ranked 27th in the league and the defense will need to be good here. 

On the other side of this matchup is UConn who sits with a 5-5 record overall and they have gone 8-2 against the spread. In the last game against UMass the defense was strong giving up only ten points and that led to the 17-point victory. Running back Victor Rosa had a big game rushing 17 times for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Zion Turner completed 6 of his 13 passes for 60 yards. UConn is averaging 18.5 points while their defense is giving up 24.6 points per game. The offense still hasn’t been great this season, but the defense clearly is improving. 

Liberty is 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 games. UConn is 6-0 against the spread in their last six games overall. The over is 4-1 in Calgary’s last five games. The under is 5-0 in UConn’s last five games. The over is 3-1-1 in UConn’s last five games. The under is 9-3 in Huskies last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

UConn’s defense has been better this season and they are going to slow down the Liberty offense. I don’t however think their offense is going to find a whole lot of success and that is going to lead to this game being lower scoring. I don’t think UConn will score seven points or less.
