The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will travel south to San Antonio and take on the UTSA Roadrunners from the Alamodome this weekend on ESPN+. UTSA and Louisiana Tech have faced off in every season since 2012, with the Bulldogs holding a 7-3 series lead, but the Roadrunners have won the last two matchups, including a 29-point win last season.
Louisiana Tech is 3-6 after defeating Middle Tennessee State at home in Week 10. The Bulldogs and the Blue Raiders went blow for blow in the first half, before the host pulled away in the second, and picked up their second conference win of the season. Louisiana Tech scores 32.6 points per game, while passing for 288.7 yards per game (36th), and rushing for 114.2 ypg (228th). The Bulldog defense allows 37.8 points per game.
Parker McNeil returned to the lineup and got the Bulldogs back in the win column. The Troy transfer left the Rice game early, and missed a winnable game against FIU, but he threw for 285 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win over MTSU. McNeil will at least give Louisiana Tech a chance this weekend, but he’ll have to be sharp in order to keep up with Frank Harris and UTSA. McNeil has thrown for 1,908 passing yards with 18 touchdowns to eight interceptions through eight starts.
Marquis Crosby has capitalized on his opportunities, and helped the Bulldogs establish some form of run game. Crosby has surpassed the 115-yard mark in back-to-back games, and he leads LT with 694 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The Bulldogs are juiced by a pair of Harris’ at receiver. Tre Harris topped his season-high last weekend with a dynamic 157-yard, two-score performance against MTSU, and he leads the team in receptions (49), receiving yards (803), and touchdown catches (9).. Smoke Harris went off for a season-best 156 yards versus UNT, and he’s now up to 48 catches, 493 yards, and four touchdowns.
UTSA improved to 7-2 after defeating UAB in Birmingham in Week 10. The Roadrunners couldn’t stop a rally from the Blazers, but they managed to outlast them in double-overtime to stay atop the Conference USA standings. UTSA scores 36.6 points per game, while passing for 490.2 yards per game (13th), and rushing for 164.9 ypg (109th).
Frank Harris has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season. The third year starter has been dominant, nearly leading UTSA to upsets over in-state powers Houston and Texas. Harris surpassed the 7,000-mark for his career in the win over FIU, and he threw four touchdown passes in the win over UAB. Harris has thrown for 2,823 passing yards with 21 touchdowns to six interceptions, and he’s rushed for 354 yards and five scores through nine games.
Brendan Brady lines up alongside Harris in the backfield. The fifth-year senior went for a season-high 112 yards and two scores in the win over UNT. Brady leads UTSA with 570 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Harris has a great rapport with senior wideouts. Zakhari Franklin scored twice in the win over UAB, and he now leads the group with 768 receiving yards on 62 catches with a team-lead nine touchdowns. Cephus leads the team in receptions (66), and he’s scored in back-to-back games. De’Corian Clark is right behind them with 51 catches for 741 yards and eight scores.
Louisiana Tech is 4-5 against the spread this season, with a 0-5 record on the road. UTSA is 5-4 against the spread this season, with a 2-2 record at home. The Over is 10-1 in Louisiana Tech's last 11 conference games. The Over is 10-3 in UTSA's last 13 games overall.
UTSA has been dialed since a 1-2 start with losses to in-state powers Houston and Texas, and they’ve held things down atop the Conference USA standings all season. That’s not going to stop here versus an inconsistent Louisiana Tech team.
The Roadrunners have come too far and with a chance to host CUSA title game in the Alamodome for the second year in a row within reach, this veteran group of guys will keep their foot on the pedal against the Bulldogs.
Take UTSA’s spread in the dome this Saturday, and a lot of points will be scored, so give the over a look as well, with the Roadrunners fully capable of doing the heavy lifting.
