The Clemson Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Notre Dame Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020 it was Clemson that secured the 34-10 victory.
Clemson comes into this game with an 8-0 record and if they win out they should make the college football playoff. In the last game against Syracuse, Clemson played with fire a bit, but they outscored the Orange 17-0 in the 4th quarter and that was enough to secure the 27-21 victory. Cade Klubnik did come in relief in the last game, but it’s been made clear that DJ Uiagalelei is still the starter for this team. Clemson is averaging 37.1 points while their defense is giving up 19.9 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is Notre Dame who sits with a 5-3 record overall. In the last game against Syracuse, Notre Dame looked quite impressive scoring 41 points, and that led to the victory. Quarterback Drew Pyne completed 9 of his 19 passes for 116 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Audric Estime also had a big game finishing with 20 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Notre Dame is averaging 28.4 points while their defense is giving up 22.1 points per game.
Clemson is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games in November. Notre Dame is 6-0 against the spread in their last six games against the ACC. The under is 5-1-1 in Clemson’s last seven non-conference games. The under is 4-1 in Notre Dame’s last five home games. The under is 4-1 in Notre Dame’s last five games in November.
It might not be a super popular play, but Notre Dame is going to find success in this game. I’m not sold that Uiagalelei is the right answer for Clemson under center and he’s going to make a couple of mistakes in this game. Look for Notre Dame to find offensive success like they did in the last game, and that will be enough for them to keep this game close. Back Notre Dame against the spread.
