Oklahoma State at Kansas - 11/5/22 College Football Picks and Prediction
The Oklahoma State Cowboys will stay in the Sunflower state and head to Lawrence to take on Kansas Jayhawks this weekend on FS1. The Cowboys and the Jayhawks have crossed paths in nearly every season since 1946. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series 41-29 after winning 12 straight matchups since 2010.
Oklahoma State is 6-2 after being shut out by Kansas State last time out. to TCU in Week 7. The Cowboys never really got off of the bus in Manhattan, taking a 35-point deficit after two, and never finding a way onto the scoreboard. Oklahoma State is scoring 39.1 points per game, while passing for 294.8 yards per game (31st), and rushing for 141.7 ypg (159th). The Cowboy defense allows 31.8 points per game.
Spencer Sanders has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season, despite last weekend’s results. The senior signal caller is flourishing with both his arm and legs here in his fourth year behind center. Sanders’ failed to account for the first time this season versus the Wildcats, and he’ll definitely look to bounce back here. Sanders has passed for 2,177 passing yards with 15 touchdowns to five interceptions, and he’s rushed for 343 yards and eight touchdowns through six starts.
Dominic Richardson has got all of the backfield work alongside Sanders this season. The junior running back dashed for a career-high 131 yards in the win over Arizona State, and he scored three times in the win over Texas. Richardson is up to a team-lead 451 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, despite missing last weekend’s game. While there’s no Dez Bryant or Justin Blackmon in play this season, the Cowboys have four solid pass catchers who’ve surpassed the 250-yard mark. Brennan Presley leads the team with 38 receptions and 462 receiving yards out of the slot. Bryson Green is second on the team with 24 catches for 455 yards after big games versus Texas & Texas Tech.
Kansas dropped to 5-3 after falling to Baylor in Week 8. The loss marked the third in a row for Lance Leipold’s team, tarnishing their magical start. Kansas scores 38.7 points per game, while passing for 238.6 yards per game (21st), and rushing for 187.5 ypg (68th). The Jayhawk defense allows 30.2 points per game.
The Jayhawks had the nation on notice with a healthy Jalon Daniels behind center, and his pending return will be worth monitoring here. The junior quarterback was leader behind KU’s 5-0 start, and a duel between him and Sanders could be amazing. Daniels had a Heisman buzz before going down in the TCU game, passing for 1,072 with eleven touchdowns to one interception.
Devin Neal has scored in each of the past two games, and leads the team in rushing again this season with 537 yards and six touchdowns. Lawrence Arnold and Luke Grimm have been the primary targets outside. Arnold’s been the most consistent, catching 25 passes for a team-lead 401 receiving yards. Grimm leads KU in receptions with 26 for 390 yards.
Oklahoma State is 5-3 against the spread this season, with a 2-1 record on the road. Kansas is 7-1 against the spread this season, with a 4-0 record at home. The over is 6-2 in Huskies games this season.
If there’s anyone who can motivate a unit in college football, it’s Mike Gundy.
The longtime ball coach is going to have this group fired up to leave the state of Kansas on a high note, and that may not bode well for the Jayhawks. KU was enjoying a magical season prior to Daniels injury versus TCU, and with him eligible to return this week, that will definitely be something to keep your eye on going into this Big 12 bout.
A 48-point loss isn’t something that will be forgotten about, so look for the Cowboys to come out and try to set a tone physically, and get back in the win column with a victory and cover here. Trust Coach Gundy’s group and take their spread this weekend.
