The Pitt Panthers and Louisville Cardinals face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020 it was Pitt that secured the 23-20 victory. 

The Pitt Panthers come into this game with a 4-2 record overall and they are coming off another win against Virginia Tech in the last game. Pitt scored 45 points and in the half, they outscored the Hokies 28-13. Quarterback Kedon Slovis completed 15 of his 28 passes for 170 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. Pitt is averaging 35 points while their defense is giving up 26.2 points per game. Two games ago against Georgia Tech, Pitt wasn’t great and they were defeated 26-21. 

On the other side of this matchup is the Louisville Cardinals who sit with a 3-3 record overall and they are coming off another victory in the last game. They fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter but the defense stepped up the rest of the game and they secured the 34-17 victory. Louisville is averaging 27.7 points while their defense is giving up 23.3 points per game. Brock Domann started under center in the last game, but Malik Cunningham should be back from injury in this game. Louisville also needs a more consistent run game in this one.

Pitt is 8-1 against the spread in their last nine road games. Louisville is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games following a straight-up win. The under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings played between the two teams. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings played between the two teams in Louisville. 

Louisville gets Cunningham back for this game, but I’m not sure that is actually the best thing for them. Cunningham has been inconsistent this season, and he is going to struggle to score against the Pitt defense. Louisville’s defense has been decent this season giving up 23.3 points per game and they are going to slow down the Pitt offense here. Back the under to cash here.
