This Mississippi State Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Bryant-Denny Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2021 it was Alabama that secured the 49-9 victory.
Mississippi State comes into this game with a 5-2 record overall but they are coming off a disappointing loss in the last game against Kentucky. The offense scored only 17 points and that led to the 10-point loss against Kentucky. Will Rogers completed 25 of his 37 passes for 203 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Jo’quavios Marks caught seven passes for 60 yards. The Bulldogs are averaging 35.4 points while their defense is giving up 21.9 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is Alabama who sits with a 6-1 record overall and they have gone 4-3 against the spread. In the last game against Tennessee, the defense gave up 52 points, and that led to the three-point defeat. Quarterback Bryce Young did have a big game completing 35 of his 52 passes for 455 yards and two touchdowns. Jahymr Gibbs also had 24 carries for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Alabama is averaging 45 points while their defense is giving up 18.1 points per game. If the defense steps up here, Alabama will be in good shape to secure the win.
Mississippi State is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. Alabama is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games following a straight-up loss. The under is 17-4-1 in the last 22 meetings played between the two teams. The favorite is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
The Bulldogs offense didn’t look good in the last game against Kentucky, but Alabama’s defense was an issue in the last game, and I expect the Bulldogs to find more success scoring here. The Bulldogs defense is going to have no answer for Bryce Young, and this game is going to be a shootout. I expect at least 70 points to be scored here, and the over is going to cash with ease.
