Nebraska will travel to East Lafayette and take on Purdue from Ross-Ade Stadium for some Big Ten football.
Nebraska is 3-3 after defeating Rutgers in Week 6. A big second half on both sides of the ball led to the Huskers second straight victory. Nebraska is averaging 28.5 points per game, while passing for 255.3 (90th) yards per game and rushing for 160.2 ypg (111th). The Blackshirts give up 29.3 points per game.
Casey Thompson has looked well in two starts this month. After leading them to a victory over Indiana, the Texas transfer threw a pair of second half touchdown passes to get the Huskers past Rutgers last Friday. Thompson has thrown for 1,497 passing yards with 14 total touchdowns (9 pass, 5 rush) to six interceptions. Anthony Grant is a stud in the backfield, and he’s among Big Ten leaders with 647 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the season. LSU transfer Trey Palmer has be reliable each time out, and he leads Nebraska with 40 receptions and 544 receiving yards.
Purdue is 3-2 after an upset road victory over Minnesota in Week 5. The Boilermakers outgained the Golden Gophers 359-304, and took advantage of Mohamed Ibrahim’s absence by forcing Tanner Morgan into throwing three interceptions. Purdue is averaging 32.8 points per game, while passing for 288.6 yards per game (40th) and rushing for 140.4 yards per game (160th). The Purdue defense is allowing 20.6 points per game.
Aidan O’Connell leads the Boilermakers offensive attack, and he’s thrown for 1,559 passing yards with ten touchdowns to four interceptions through five starts. Dylan Downing and Devin Mockobee have both split the rushing work early. Mockobee leads the team after a big game against Minnesota with 275 yards, while Downing has 249. Iowa transfer Charlie Jones has stepped into the Rondale Moore, David Bell role, and leads the team in receptions (50) and receiving yards (603) thus far.
Nebraska is 1-5 against the spread this season. The under is 4-1 in the Cornhuskers last 5 games overall. Purdue is 4-2 ATS this season. The under is 8-2 in the Boilermakers last 10 games in October.
The turnaround at Nebraska has been pleasant to see, but Purdue has something a bit more special going on. The Boilermakers have picked up back-to-back underdog wins, and Aidan O’Connell has a string on the football right now.
The total feels massive for a Big Ten football game, and while Purdue is very capable of putting points on the board, the jury’s still out on Nebraska. A chilly night in Indiana may lead to a slow second half here, so away with the under for this conference clash.
