Maryland will travel to Bloomington and battle Indiana from Memorial Stadium on ESPN2. Indiana and Maryland have faced off in every season since the Terps joined the Big Ten in 2014, and the Hoosiers lead the all-time series, 7-3. Maryland won last year’s meeting in College Park, 38-35.
Maryland is 4-2 after losing to Purdue in Week 6. The Terps outgained the Boilermakers 387-373, but couldn’t convert a two-point conversion to send the game to overtime. Maryland is averaging 34.2 points per game, while passing for 304.7 yards per game (31st) and rushing for 157.1 rushing yards per game (115th). The Maryland defense is allowing 22.6 points per game and 388.8 yards per game.
Taulia Tagovailoa leads the Terps aerial attack, and he’s thrown for 1,731 passing yards with eleven touchdowns to five interceptions through five starts. Roman Hemby and Antwain Litttleton split the workload for Maryland. Littleton had a big game against the Spartans, going for a career-high 120 yards, and he leads the Terps with six rushing touchdowns. Hemby paces the team with 395 rushing yards. Rakim Jarrett leads UMD with 24 receptions, while tight end Corey Dyches leads the team with 322.receiving yards and three touchdown catches.
Indiana is 3-2 after losing to Maryland in Week 6. The Hoosiers kept things close early, but couldn’t prevent the Wolverines from pulling away in the second half. IU was outgained 469-203 by Big Blue, and they let J.J. McCarthy pass for a career-high 304 yards. Connor Bazelak has found out what the Big Ten is all about early. Indiana is hellbent on passing the ball this season, and the Mizzou transfer has endured his share of growing pains early. Bazelak has thrown for 1,597 passing yards, with nine touchdowns to six interceptions, through his first six starts as a Hoosier. The junior quarterback’s completion percentage of 52.5% is alarming. IU rarely runs the football, but Shaun Shivers leads the team in rushing yards (370). Cam Camper has been the number one option early, and he leads Indiana with 35 receptions for 457 receiving yards.
Maryland is 4-2 against the spread this season, with a 2-0 record on the road. The over is 4-1 in the Terrapins last 5 road games. Indiana is 2-4 ATS this season, with a 2-2 record at home. The over is 9-2 in Hoosiers last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
This battle of states will pit two of the few teams that defy the nature of the Big Ten against each other. October is when the passing begins to slow down for most of the conference, but not Maryland and Indiana. Both schools pass the ball over 40 times a game, and have adopted a lover for the Air Raid attack. With sunny, high-80 degree weather expected, look for the rare shootout in Big Ten play. Take the over for this matchup.
