The Iowa State Cyclones and Texas Longhorns face off on Saturday in a Big 12 college football showdown at Texas Memorial Stadium. When these two teams faced off last season it was Iowa State that secured the 30-7 victory.
Texas comes into this game with a 4-2 record overall and they are coming off quite the victory over the Oklahoma Sooners. The offense scored 49 points while giving up zero points to Oklahoma’s offense. Quinn Ewers has been banged up this season but he looked healthy in the last game completing 21 of his 31 passes for 289 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Bijan Robinson also finished with 22 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns. When Ewers has played, the Longhorns have looked like one of the best teams in college football.
On the other side of this matchup is the Cyclones who sit with a 3-3 record but they have lost three games in a row. Over the last two games the defense has given up only 24 points, but the offense has only scored 20 points. Under center for Iowa State is Hunter Dekkers and he completed 22 of his 38 passes for 198 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Xavier Hutchinson had a big game catching eight passes for 100 yards. Iowa State is averaging 23.1 points while their defense is giving up 13.7 points per game.
Iowa State is 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games. Texas is 5-0 against the spread in their last five home games. The favorite is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings. The under is 7-0 in the last seven meetings played between the two teams.
This Iowa State offense has some major issues and it’s clear this Texas defense is a strength. Look for Dekkers to really struggle to get anything going, and that is going to be the difference as Texas gets the job done. Texas is only going to need to score 30 points to cover the spread, and they are going to score at least that many here. Back the Longhorns to cover the spread.
