The Purdue Boilermakers will travel to College Park and take on the Maryland Terrapins this Saturday from SECU Stadium on the Big Ten Network.
Purdue is 3-2 after an upset road victory over Minnesota in Week 5. The Boilermakers outgained the Golden Gophers 359-304, and took advantage of Mohamed Ibrahim’s absence by forcing Tanner Morgan into throwing three interceptions. Purdue is averaging 32.8 points per game, while passing for 288.6 yards per game (40th) and rushing for 140.4 yards per game (160th). The Purdue defense is allowing 20.6 points per game and 312 yards per game. Aidan O’Connell leads the Boilermakers Air Raid attack, and he’s thrown for 1,199 passing yards with eight touchdowns to three interceptions through four starts. Dylan Downing and Devin Mockobee have both split the rushing work early. Mockobee leads the team after a big game against Minnesota with 249 yards, while Downing has 236. Iowa transfer Charlie Jones has stepped into David Bell’s role, and leads the team in receptions (47) and receiving yards (588) thus far.
Maryland is 4-1 after a win over Michigan State in Week 5. The Terrapins outgained the Spartans 489-321, and shut their opponents on in the second half. Maryland is averaging 35.2 points per game, while passing for 302.6 yards per game (30th) and 174.1 rushing yards per game (87th). The Maryland defense is allowing 21.2 points per game and 392 yards per game. Taulia Tagovailoa leads the Terps aerial attack, and he’s thrown for 1,416 passing yards with eight touchdowns to four interceptions through five starts. Roman Hemby and Antwain Litttleton split the workload for Maryland. Littleton had a big game against the Spartans, going for a career-high 120 yards, and he leads the Terps with six rushing touchdowns. Henry paces the team with 369 rushing yards. Rakim Jarrett leads a deep receiving core with 20 catches for 249.
Purdue is 2-3 ATS this season, with a 1-1 record on the road. The over is 5-1 in Purdue’s last six games vs a team with a winning record. Maryland is 4-1 ATS this season, with a 2-1 record at home.
Both schools enter this one on the heels of wins over conference powers, displaying the depth of the Big Ten Conference. This one could also be a shootout, with two of the best passing attacks in the Power 5 crossing paths. Neither of the two schools had defended well prior to last weekend, and with no rain in sight this weekend, we have a lot of the ingredients for a high scoring affair. I really like the over for this Big Ten battle.
