The Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs face off on Saturday in a Week 5 college football showdown at Amon G. Carter Stadium. When these two teams faced off last year it was Oklahoma that secured the 52-31 victory.
Oklahoma comes into this game with a 3-1 record overall, but they are coming off a pretty shocking loss in the last game. After beating Nebraska 49-14 two games ago, they came out dead against Kansas State and were defeated 41-34. Oklahoma really struggled to defend Adrian Martinez’s legs and allowed him to rush for 148 yards and four touchdowns. Under center for Oklahoma is Dillon Gabriel and in the last game, he completed 26 of his 39 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Eric Gray also rushed 16 times for 114 yards. The Sooners are averaging 40.3 points while their defense is giving up 17.8 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is TCU who sits with a 3-0 record and they looked good in the last game against the SMU Mustangs, especially with the offense. TCU put up 42 points, and that led to the eight-point victory. Under center for TCU is Max Duggan and he completed 22 of his 39 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns. Kendre Miller finished with 17 carries for 142 yards and a touchdown. TCU is averaging 46.3 points while their defense is giving up 21.3 points per game. In this game, if TCU’s defense is strong, the Horned Frogs are going to have a chance in this game.
Oklahoma is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games in October. TCU is 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight home games. Oklahoma is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven meetings against TCU.
Oklahoma didn’t look great in the last game with their defense, and I expect TCU will attack that again here. Look for TCU to run up the score, but their defense will also have issues slowing down Gabriel who threw for four touchdowns in the last game. This game is going to be a shootout, and the over is going to cash. Back the over.
