The Iowa State Cyclones and Kansas Jayhawks face off on Saturday in a Week 5 college football showdown at Memorial Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2021 it was Iowa State that secured the 59-7 victory.
Iowa State comes into this game with a 3-1 record overall but they are coming off a loss in their last game against the Baylor Bears. They were competitive, but they didn’t make enough defensive stops, and that led to the 31-24 defeat. Under center for Iowa State is Hunter Dekkers and he completed 22 of his 36 passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Dekkers has found some success this season, but there have been some growing pains with him also. Iowa State on the season is averaging 29.8 points while their defense is giving up 14.5 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is Kansas who sit with a 4-0 record and they have been one of the biggest surprises in all of college football. In the last game against Duke the offense again a strong game, and they were able to secure the 35-27 victory. Under center for Kansas is Jalon Daniels and in last game he finished throwing for 324 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 11 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. The Jayhawks offense is averaging 48.5 points which is 4th best in the league. The defense is giving up 27.3 points per game, and the defense is going to need to be better here.
Iowa State is 1-5 against the spread in their last six games against a team with a winning record. The Jayhawks are 7-0 against the spread in their last seven games. The over is 4-1 in Iowa State’s last five games in October. The over is 8-2 in the Jayhawks last ten games in October.
Iowa State struggled in the last game against Baylor, and they don’t have the offense to keep up in this game. I expect a big game from Daniels here, and the Jayhawks are going to get close to the 35 point mark again. The Jayhawks are the underdog here, but I don’t think we are going to even need the points here. Back Kansas on the money line to pull the upset.
