The UMass Minutemen and Temple Owls face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. When these two teams faced off in 2017 it was Temple that secured the 29-21 victory.

It looks like it’s going to be a down season for Temple who currently sit with a 1-2 record. In the first game of the season Temple lost to Duke 30-0. In the last game against Rutgers, Temple was competitive, but they fell just short as they were defeated 16-14. Under center for Temple is E.J. Warner and he completed 19 of his 32 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Temple is averaging 14.7 points per game while their defense is giving up 20 points per game. The defense hasn’t been awful, but the offense needs to find a way to get going here.

On the other side of this matchup is UMass who sits with a 1-2 record overall and the one win came in their last game. UMass opened up the season with a 42-10 loss against Tulane, and in the last game against Toledo, they lost 55-10. In the last game against Stony Brook, the defense was strong giving up only three points and that led to the victory. Overall this season UMass is averaging only 13.3 points while their defense is giving up 33.3 points per game. In this game, UMass needs to find a way to get the offense going.

Temple is 0-4 against the spread in their last four games against a team with a losing record. The Owls are 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. UMass is 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 games following a straight up win.

Temple at least looked competitive in the last game against Rutgers, and they are going to slow down this UMass offense. The Minutemen have struggled to score all season and that is going to be the difference as Temple is going to get the job done here. Back Temple against the spread.
