The Clemson Tigers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at BB&T Field. In 2021 it was Clemson that won 48-21.
Clemson comes into this game with a 3-0 perfect record but they haven’t really been tested yet. In the last game against LA Tech, the offense scored 48 points and that was enough to secure the 28-point victory. DJ Uiagalelei completed 17 of his 29 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He has to be looking over his shoulder though because five-star recruit Cade Klubnik sitting behind him. Will Shipley had a big game finishing with 12 carries for 139 yards and two touchdowns. In this game, if Clemson wants to win this game the defense is going to need to have a big game.
On the other side of this matchup is Wake Forest who sit with a perfect 3-0 record. One of those games was over Vanderbilt, and in that game, they scored 45 points. In the last game against Liberty, Wake Forest didn’t look great with the defense giving up 36 points, but they scored 37 points. Under center for Wake Forest is Sam Hartman and in the last game, he completed 26 of his 44 passes for 325 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. In this game he can’t be having the same turnover issues, or this will be a long game for Wake Forest. Overall this season Wake Forest is averaging 42 points which is 21st in college football.
Wake Forest is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games following an against the spread loss. Clemson is 1-9 against the spread in their last ten games in September. The under is 8-0 in Wake Forest’s last eight games as a home underdog.
Last year Wake Forest had one of the best teams in school history, and they still lost to Clemson 48-21. The turnovers in the last game for Hartman really concern me, and i think he’s going to find success here. Look for Clemson’s defense to lockdown Wake Forest’s offense and that will be the difference as Clemson gets the job done.
Shane’s Pick Clemson -7.5
