The Purdue Boilermakers and Syracuse Orange face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Syracuse has looked really good to start the season and they currently sit with a 2-0 lead. Syracuse beat Louisville 31-7 in the first game of the season and in the last game against UConn they were able to win 48-14. In the last game quarterback, Garrett Shrader had a big game completing 20 of his 33 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Sean Tucker has had a big season and in the last game he rushed 27 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. It was a balanced attack out wide with four different players going over 40 reception yards.
On the other side of this matchup is Purdue and they come into this game with a 1-1 draw. In the first game of the season, they lost to Penn State 35-31 and in the last game against Indiana, they were able to win 56-0. Quarterback Aidan O’Connell had a big game in the last game completing 17 of his 19 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns. Devin Mockobee had a big game on the ground rushing 13 times for 78 yards. Wide receiver Charlie Jones has also had a big game catching nine passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns.
Purdue is 15-7 against the spread in their last 22 games on field turf. Syracuse is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games. The under is 5-1 in Purdue’s last six road games. The under is 4-0 in the Orange’s last four home games. The under is 17-7 in Syracuse’s last 24 games in October. Boilermakers are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
Syracuse’s defense has been elite this season and I expect they are going to lockdown in this game. Syracuse gave up only seven points to Louisville and they are going to slow down the Purdue offense here. I think Syracuse will win this game by a touchdown, but we will play it safe. Back Syracuse against the spread.
