The Mississippi State Bulldogs and LSU Tigers face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Tiger Stadium.
LSU comes into this game with a 1-1 record overall, but they have to feel like they should currently be 2-0. In the first game of the season, LSU lost to Florida State 24-23 and in the last game against Southern, they were able to win 65-17. At the end of the first quarter, LSU was up 37-0, and they never looked back as they cruised to the victory. The big question for LSU is who will be under center for the Tigers. In the last game Garrett Nussmeier completed 13 of his 23 passes for 183 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. Jayden Daniels completed 10 of his 11 passes for 137 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Running back Armoni Goodwin had 12 carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Whoever is under center in this game for LSU is going to need to have a big game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Mississippi State Bulldogs who come into this game with a 2-0 record. The Bulldogs beat Memphis 49-23 in the first game and in the last game they beat Arizona 39-17. Under center for Mississippi State is Will Rogers and he has looked good so far this season. In his last start, he completed 30 of his 49 passes for 313 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Out wide it’s a balanced attack and in the last game, there were five different players that finished with at least five receptions. On defense, there are still some questions, but this should be a good test about how good this team can actually be.
Mississippi State is 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games overall. LSU is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five conference games. The under is 4-1 in Mississippi State’s last five games in September. The under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings played between the two teams.
The big difference in this game is the quarterback. LSU has had an inconsistent play while the Bulldogs have Will Rogers. I expect Mississippi State is going to find plenty of offensive success and that is going to be the difference here as the Bulldogs will get the job done. I expect Mississippi State will score at least 35 points and that will be enough to cover the spread.
Shane’s Pick Mississippi State -2.5
