The California Golden Bears and Notre Dame Fighting Irish face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Notre Dame Stadium.
Notre Dame has been one of the most disappointing teams in college football. Most expected them to lose in the first game against Notre Dame, but no one expected them to lose in the last game against Marshall. The offense could only manage 21 points and that led to the defeat. In the first three games, the Notre Dame offense only managed seven points total. Drew Pyne has been named ths starting quarterback in this game, and the Fighting Irish need a big game out of him. In the last game, he completed three of his six passes for 20 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
On the other side of this matchup is Cal and they have won their first two games of the season. Cal opened up the season with a 34-13 victory over UC Davis and followed that up with 20-14 victory over UNLV. Under center for Cal is Jack Plummer and in the last game, he completed 28 of his 39 passes for 278 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Jaydn Ott had seven carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. The defense also looked quite impressive in the last game and if they want to find success in this game, the defense is going to need to have a really big game.
Cal is 16-7 against the spread in their last 23 road games. Notre Dame is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games overall. The under is 7-3 in Cal’s last ten games. The under is 6-2 in Notre Dame’s last seven games overall.
Neither of these offenses has been all that impressive this season and I expect scoring is going to be hard to come by here. I don’t trust Pyne under center for Notre Dame and they will really struggle to move the ball against Cal. This game is going to be low scoring, and the under will cash here. It wouldn’t shock me if this game ended under 30 points.
