The Missouri Tigers and Kansas State Wildcats face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Kansas State opened up their season against the South Dakota Coyotes and they were able to secure the 34-0 victory. At the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats were up 20-0, and they never looked back as they cruised to the victory. Adrian Martinez completed 11 of his 15 passes for 53 yards. He wasn’t asked to do a whole lot in the first game, and this is going to be a much bigger test for him. Andrew Vaughn is one of the top running backs in the country and he had 18 rushes for 126 yards and a touchdown. Will Swanson was the top running back finishing with two catches for 23 yards. The defense only allowed 139 yards through the air, and the defense needs to be a strength.
On the other side of this matchup is Missouri and they opened up their season with a 52-24 victory over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. At the end of the first quarter Missouri was down 3-0 but in the second quarter they gave up 24 points and that led to the victory. Missouri quarterback Brady Cook had a big game completing 18 of his 27 passes for 201 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Nathaniel Peat had eight rushes for 72 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Dominic Lovett had six catches for 76 yards. On defense, they gave up over 230 yards through the air, and they need to be better against the pass here.
Kansas State is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games as a favorite. The under is 5-0 in Missouri's last five games as an underdog. Missouri is 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game.
Missouri’s offense looked good in the first game, and I am not so sure that Martinez is the right choice under center for Kansas State. Look for Missouri to find enough offensive success and Martinez to not be all that successful here. The Wildcats might still win the game, but Kansas State will cover the spread.
