The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders and Colorado State Rams face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at Canvas Stadium.
Middle Tennessee opened up their season against James Madison and they didn’t look very good at all. The defense was awful giving up 44 points, and the offense couldn’t get much of anything going as they were defeated 44-7. The defense allowed James Madison to throw for six touchdown passes, and in this game that is going to need to be something that is cleaned up, and cleaned up quickly. Under center for the Blue Raiders is Chase Cunningham and he completed 18 of his 32 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. This team doesn’t really have a running back that can be trusted right now.
On the other side of this matchup is Colorado State who also opened up their season with an ugly loss. The offense only managed seven points against Michigan while the defense gave up 51 points. Quarterback Clay Millen completed 16 of his 20 passes for 137 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Wide receiver Tory Horton caught six passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. The defense in the first game really struggled to stop the run, and that needs to be improved upon here.
Middle Tennessee is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against a team with a losing record. Colorado State is 0-7 against the spread in their last seven games overall. The over is 10-3-1 in Middle Tennessee’s last 14 games on field turf. The over is 4-0 in the Rams last four games following an against-the-spread loss. The over is 5-2 in the Rams last seven games overall.
There is no doubt that Middle Tennessee didn’t look good in the first game, but James Madison is one of the best teams in the FCS. I’m not so sure this Colorado State team is a whole lot better than Middle Tennessee, and I don’t trust their defense. Look for Middle Tennessee to find some success scoring against this Colorado State defense and that will be the difference here. Middle Tennessee will keep it close and cover the spread.
