The Maryland Terrapins and Charlotte 49ers face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at Jerry Richardson Stadium.
The Maryland Terrapins faced off against the Buffalo Bulls in the first game, and they were able to secure the 31-10 victory. At halftime, Maryland was up 17-7 and they never looked back as they cruised to the easy victory. Under center for Maryland is Taulia Tagovailoa and he completed 24 of his 34 passes for 290 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. Roman Hemby had a big game on the ground rushing seven times for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Rakim Jarrett was the top wide receiver catching six passes for 110 yards. The defense was strong against Buffalo only giving up 160 points through the air.
On the other side of this matchup is the Charlotte 49ers and have played two games this season, and lost both of them. In the first game, they lost to Florida Atlantic 43-13 and in the last game against William & Mary they lost 41-24. One problem for Charlotte is that starting quarterback Chris Reynolds was hurt in the first game of the season and he didn’t play against William & Mary. It’s unclear if he’s going to be able to go in this game. Xavier Williams completed 12 of his 23 passes in the last game for 201 yards. Elijah Spencer caught five passes for 107 yards. In this game, if Charlotte wants a chance in this game, they are going to need the defense to be better.
Maryland is 2-8 against the spread in their last ten games. Charlotte is 0-5 against the spread in their last five games overall. The over is 4-1 in Maryland’s last five games. The over is 5-1 in Charlotte’s last six games overall.
Maryland might put up 65 or 70 points in this game. Charlotte gave up 41 points in their last game against William & Mary, and Maryland is going to have no issue running up the terrible defense. I also expect Charlotte is going to find success scoring, even if Reynolds doesn’t play. The trends point towards the over, and those trends are going to cash again here. Back the over here.
