The North Carolina Tar Heels and Appalachian State Mountaineers face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Kidd Brewer Stadium. 

North Carolina has been one of the few teams that have played a game so far this season and they are coming off a victory over Florida A&M. North Carolina scored 56 points and that was enough to secure the victory. Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye completed 29 of his 37 passes for 294 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Omarion Hampton had 14 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns. The offense looked good, but the defense did some struggles, especially with the secondary. 

On the other side of this matchup is the Appalachian State Mountaineers who finished last season with a 10-4 record and they believe they will be even better this season. The offense was strong last season, and it has playmakers all over the field. Chase Brice is back under center and he completed 242 of his 390 passes for 3,337 yards and 27 touchdowns. The offensive line is also good, and will be leaned on heavily this season to have success. This is a run-first team, but Brice can make all the throws when he needs too. On defense, the strength was tackles for a loss, and they are going to need to put pressure on the Tar Heels offensive line here.

North Carolina is 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games. Appalachian State is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 non-conference games. The over is 4-1 in the Tar Heels last five road games. The over is 5-2 in the Mountaineers last seven non-conference games. The Over is 5-2 in Mountaineers last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

North Carolina’s defense didn’t look good in the first game against Florida A&M and it’s not going to get any easier going against Appalachian State. Look for Brice to have a big game here, and the Mountaineers are going to run up the score here. The Mountaineers are the favorites, and they are going to score enough here to get the job done.
