The Kent State Golden Flashes will play the Washington Huskies in a non-conference game at Husky Stadium on Saturday night.
The Kent State Golden Flashes went 7-7 last season and made it to the MAC Championship Game. Kent State lost in the MAC Title game against Northern Illinois by a score of 41-23 and then followed it up with a loss in the Potato Bowl against Wyoming by a score of 52-38. The Golden Flashes had quite a bit of turnover from last year, but their offense should still be solid. Last season, Kent State’s offense was one of the best in the nation in total offense. On defense, Kent State left a lot to be desired last season and will look to improve this year.
The Washington Huskies went 4-8 last year and ended the season on a four game losing streak. Washington started the season with a loss to Montana and it went downhill from there. One positive note that the Huskies can bring with them from 2021 is that five of the eight losses were by one score. Last season, Washington had one of the worst offenses in the country and will look to turn it around. Washington has a new head coach, Kalen DeBoer, who came from Fresno State and a top 15 offense last year. The Huskies defense last season was a bright spot, but they lost a lot of production in the off-season.
Kent State is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The under is 4-0 in Kent State’s last 4 September games. Washington is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The under is 15-5 in Washington’s last 20 games.
Washington comes into this game as a pretty big favorite over Kent State at home. Washington needs to be much improved from last season if they are to win this game 24 or 25 points. I think this game has the makings of a shoot out with the Kent State defense not being very good. On the flip side, the Kent State offense should be able to put at least 20-25 points on the board. I like the over.
