The Florida Atlantic Owls will play the Ohio Bobcats in a non-conference game on Saturday night at Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio.
The Florida Atlantic Owls are 1-0 this season after defeating Charlotte by a score of 43-13 last week. Florida Atlantic fell behind 7-0 early in the first quarter, but outscored Charlotte 43-6 for the remainder of the game. Charlotte is not good this year, as they lost to William & Mary this week, so take that first game for what it was. N’Kosi Perry threw for 256 yards, one touchdown, and 0 interceptions for the Owls. Larry McCammon rushed for 118 yards and one score, while LaJohntay Wester had four catches for 66 yards for Florida Atlantic. The Owls defense suffocated Charlotte’s offense all night and forced one turnover.
The Ohio Bobcats were 3-9 last season and lost seven of their first eight games for the season. Ohio did have a couple of close losses, but they weren’t able to make the big play when they needed to. Ohio does return some talent on offense, including Kurtis Rourke at quarterback. Defense was not a strength for Ohio in 2021, but they do return a decent amount of production. With the guys returning, the Ohio defense should be better than last season. Ohio should be better than they were last year, but don’t expect a huge turnaround.
Florida Atlantic is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 September games. The under is 6-1 in Florida Atlantic’s last 7 non-conference games. Ohio is 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a winning record and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 September games. The under is 7-2 in Ohio’s last 9 games.
Florida Atlantic looked impressive their win last week against Charlotte, but we know that Charlotte is not good. Ohio will be looking to take a huge step in the right direction after last year’s debacle and do return some key pieces. I think this game is a toss up, so I am going to take the points with Ohio.
David’s Pick Ohio +3.5
