The Western Michigan Broncos will play the Michigan State Spartans in a non-conference game at Spartan Stadium on Friday night.
The Western Michigan Broncos were 8-5 last season and defeated Nevada in the Quick Lane Bowl by a score of 52-24. Western Michigan had an up and down season in 2021 that included beating Pittsburgh, but also included losing half of their conference games. Offensively, Western Michigan lost a lot from their team last season, but does return their running back, Sean Tyler. Replacing the quarterback and most of the receiver production will be a tall task, but the Broncos were able to get a couple of wide receiver transfers. Overall, Western Michigan will look a lot different than they did last season and it is going to take time for them to put it all together.
The Michigan State Spartans went 11-2 last season and defeated Pittsburgh in the Peach Bowl by a score of 31-21. Michigan State had a great year in 2021, only losing to Ohio State and Purdue. Michigan State did lose Walker from last season, so they will need to look for a replacement at running back. Michigan State returns their quarterback and one of their top receiving threats from last season and their offense should be pretty good. Defensively, Michigan State should have no issues against Western Michigan and are in line to have a great day. Michigan State should not have any issue on either side of the ball in this game.
Western Michigan is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The under is 7-1 in Western Michigan’s last 8 games against the Big Ten. Michigan State is 5-0-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 9-2-2 ATS in their last 13 games. The over is 4-1 in Michigan State’s last 5 home games. The home team is 5-1 ATS in these two teams last 6 head to head meetings.
Michigan State will be learning to live without Kenneth Walker, but that should be easily done in this game. The Spartans offense shouldn’t have any issue and the defense should shut the Broncos down. I like Michigan State to win big at home.
David’s Pick Michigan State -21.5
