The Illinois Fighting Illini will play the Indiana Hoosiers in a Big Ten Game on Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are 1-0 this season after defeating Wyoming by a score of 38-6 last week. Illinois dominated Wyoming from start to finish in their opening season win and outgained the Cowboys by a total of 477-212. Tommy DeVito threw for 194 yards, two touchdowns, and 0 interceptions for Illinois. Chase Brown led the Fighting Illini on the ground with 151 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Pat Bryant added 44 yards and one touchdown on three receptions for Illinois. The Illinois defense flew around all day and forced two turnovers.
The Indiana Hoosiers were 2-10 last season and only found wins against Idaho and Western Kentucky. For most of the 2021 season, Indiana was not very competitive and will try to turn things around in 2022. Offensively, Indiana was the worst team in the Big Ten last season, so there is no where to go but up for the Hoosier offense. Indiana lost almost all of their production on offense from last year, so the offense will be able to recreate itself. On defense, Indiana wasn’t very good and that unit will also have a lot of new faces. Overall, this Indiana team has a long way to go to bounce back after last season and we will see how they plug in all of the new faces on the team.
Illinois is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. The under is 8-3 in Illinois’ last 11 games. Indiana is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games. The over is 4-1 in Indiana’s last 5 September games. The home team is 5-2 ATS in these two teams last 7 head to head meetings.
Illinois has the benefit of playing in Week 0, so they have the advantage over Indiana before the game even starts. Indiana was really bad last season and I find it hard to believe that they are going to all of a sudden turn things around and win a Big Ten game. Illinois being the underdog in this game seems weird to me, but I will take them to win. The Fighting Illini should be able to execute a similar offensive game plan to last week to get the win.
