The Wyoming Cowboys will play the Illinois Fighting Illini in a non-conference game at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
The Wyoming Cowboys were 7-6 last season and defeated Kent State in the Idaho Potato Bowl by a score of 52-38 to end their season. Wyoming has decided to not announce who will be the starting quarterback for this game, meaning we will probably see Evan Svoboda or Andrew Peasley under center. Wyoming lost a lot of good players on both sides of the ball from their team last year, leaving a lot of question marks surrounding this season. Wyoming played decent defense last season, but did get gashed by three teams that put up 38+ points.
The Illinois Fighting Illini were 5-7 last season, but did win three of their final five games. Illinois has also decided to not announce their starting quarterback, but we can expect to see Artur Sitkowski and Tommy DeVito. Last year, Illinois was the worst passing attack in the Big Ten, so I would say we should see a good dose of running plays in this game. Defensively, Illinois was middle of the pack last year and should have a good day against a Wyoming team that has a lot of question marks on offense.
Wyoming is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against the Big Ten. The over is 5-1 in Wyoming’s last 6 games. Illinois is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The under is 4-1 in Illinois’ last 5 home games.
Illinois started last season very poorly and I expect them to come out with a statement here. Wyoming lost a lot of production from last year and I don’t see them being able to hang with Illinois in this game. Illinois should rack up a bunch of yards on the ground and will be able to get a look at their quarterback play. I like Illinois to win this game by a couple of touchdowns and do not expect Wyoming to score many points.
