The Nevada Wolfpack will take on the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday Night from Aggie Memorial Stadium in this week 0 matchup. The weather is expected to be 85 degrees and partly cloudy.
The Nevada Wolf Pack hired Ken Wilson after Jay Norvell left for the Colorado State. Wilson was involved in the Nevada football program for more than 2 decades as an assistant coach and a member of the staff. He also spent time as a linebackers coach for Washington State and Oregon.
Senior quarterback Nate Cox is going to take over the starting job from star quarterback Carson Strong. Cox comes in as the starter for the Nevada Wolfpack after playing in four games last season. In that time he completed 60.5% of his passes for 279 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Last year, the wolf pack finished sixth in the country in passing, so Cox has big shoes to fill.
This team will try to run some more with Toa Taua, who rushed for 732 yards and six touchdowns last year, averaging 4.9 yards per carry, at the running back. This year they are adding Liberty transfer William Green up front, along with Michigan transfer Darion Green-Warren as a cornerback.
For the New Mexico State Aggies, Jerry Kill will debut as head coach as he replaces Doug Martin. His teams are run heavy and the Aggies have added, TCU transfer Ahmonte Watkins who is expected to take a lot of offensive responsibility. Watkins rushed 12 times for 49 yards last year, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
Jonah Johnson transferred so Junior quarterback Diego Pavia is listed as the top option on the depth chart.
The over is 4-0 in Wolf Pack last 4 non-conference games and is 5-2 in Aggies last 7 games overall. The Aggies are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in August. The Wolf Pack are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. Nevada should easily get the win in this one as the New Mexico State Aggies have a lot to figure out on offense. The Wolf Pack should be able to put up some point in this one but this feels like too many to cover.
