The Vanderbilt Commodores will travel to Neyland Stadium to take on the Tennessee Volunteers this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Vanderbilt Commodores lost their 6th straight game and dropped to 2-9 o the season after being defeated by the 12th ranked Ole Miss Rebels, 31-17, this past Saturday. Vanderbilt had some success on the offensive end against Ole Miss, however, the Commodores could not fight back after an 8-yard TD run by Henry Parrish Jr. gave Ole Miss a 31-9 lead with 12:50 left in the 4th quarter. Vanderbilt was outgained by Ole Miss by a 470-454 yards and committed 1 turnover in the loss. Leading the way for the Commodores was RB Rocko Griffin who had 117 rushing yards & 1 TD on 26 carries.
On the season, Vanderbilt is averaging 15.3 ppg on 312.1 total yards per game (187.8 passing yds/g; 124.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Vanderbilt has been led by RB Rocko Griffin who has 413 yards & 3 TD on 115 carries. QB Mike Wright has completed 53.5% of his passes for 1173 yards, 5 TD, & 8 INT. The top receiving threats for the Commodores have been Chris Pierce Jr. (53 rec, 609 yards, 2 TD), Will Sheppard (38 rec, 479 yards, 3 TD), & Cam Johnson (32 rec, 307 yards, & 4 TD).
Defensively, Vanderbilt is allowing their opponents to average 35.0 ppg on 459.2 total yards per game (273.6 passing yds/g; 185.5 rushing yds/g).
The Tennessee Volunteers improved to 6-5 on the season after defeating the South Alabama Jaguars, 60-14, this past Saturday. Tennessee had no trouble generating offense against South Alabama and pulled after a 96-yard KO return by Velus Jones Jr gave the Volunteers a 35-7 lead late in the 2nd quarter. Tennessee outgained South Alabama by a 561-285 margin and didn’t commit a turnover in the victory. Leading the way for the Volunteers was QB Hendon Hooker who completed 17 of 20 passes for 273 yards & 2 TD while also rushing for a TD.
On the season, Tennessee is averaging 38.3 ppg on 460.6 total yards per game (255.3 passing yds/g; 205.4 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Tennessee has been led by QB Hendon Hooker who has completed 70.0% of his passes for 2411 yards, 24 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 486 yards & 5 TD. The top receiving threats for the Volunteers have been Cedric Tillman (51 rec, 825 yards, 7 TD), Velus Jones Jr. (50 rec, 700 yards, 6 TD), JaVonta Payton (15 rec, 373 yards, 6 TD), & Jacob Warren (18 rec, 179 yards, 3 TD). Defensively, Tennessee is allowing their opponents to average 28.1 ppg on 412.2 total yards per game (255.5 passing yds/g; 156.6 rushing yds/g).
The Commodores are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall & 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a road underdog. The Volunteers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite & 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game.
Vanderbilt has been solid ATS over the past three weeks, however, I just think this game has blowout written all over it as the Tennessee offense has looked explosive as ever against the weaker teams in the SEC which includes combining for 107 points against Missouri & South Carolina earlier this season. Vanderbilt comes into this game ranked just 119th in scoring defense & total defense and as I think Tennessee gives their home crowd a show in their regular season finale, I’m taking Tennessee to cover this large spread. Good Luck!
