The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will travel to Gerald J. Ford Stadium to take on the SMU Mustangs this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-6 on the season after defeating the Temple Owls, 44-10, this past Saturday. Tulsa dominated Temple from the start in this one and had little trouble keeping their Bowl hopes alive after going into halftime with a 27-0 lead. Tulsa outgained Temple by a 513-293 margin and forced 1 turnover in the victory. Leading the way for the Golden Hurricane was WR Josh Johnson who had 9 receptions for 159 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Tulsa is averaging 25.5 ppg on 440.6 total yards per game (247.7 passing yds/g; 192.9 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Tulsa has been led by the RB trio of Shamari Brooks (174 att, 851 yards, 6 TD), Anthony Watkins (72 att, 553 yards, 3 TD), & Deneric Prince (84 att, 469 yards, 4 TD). QB Davis Brin has completed 59.3% of his passes for 2725 yards, 15 TD, & 14 INT. The top receiving threats for the Golden Hurricane have been Josh Johnson (68 rec, 841 yards, 4 TD), JuanCarlos Santana (40 rec, 554 yards, 3 TD), Sam Crawford JR. (27 rec, 472 yards, 4 TD), & Ezra Naylor II (24 rec, 333 yards, 3 TD).
Defensively, Tulsa is allowing their opponents to average 27.1 ppg on 377.2 total yards per game (225.7 passing yds/g; 151.5 rushing yds/g).
The SMU Mustangs dropped to 8-3 on the season after being defeated by the 5th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats, 48-14, this past Saturday. SMU had no answers on either end of the field for the talented Bearcats and could not fight back after Cincinnati went into halftime with a 27-0 margin. SMU was outgained by Cincinnati by a 544-199 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Mustangs was RB Tre Siggers who had 64 rushing yards & 1 TD on 10 carries.
On the season, SMU is averaging 39.1 ppg on 471.5 total yards per game (305.1 passing yds/g; 166.4 rushing yds/g). Offensively, SMU has been led by QB Tanner Mordecai who has completed 69.1% of his passes for 3330 yards, 38 TD, & 10 INT. The top receiving threats for the Mustangs have been Danny Gray (49 rec, 803 yards, 9 TD), Rashee Rice (58 rec, 620 yards, 9 TD), Reggie Roberson Jr. (47 rec, 574 yards, 6 TD), & Grant Calcaterra (38 rec, 465 yards, 4 TD). Leading the way for the SMU backfield has been the duo of Tre Siggers (147 att, 727 yards, 9 TD) & Ulysses Bentley IV (84 att, 585 yards, 3 TD).
Defensively, SMU is allowing their opponents to average 27.9 ppg on 419.1 total yards per game (281.2 passing yds/g; 137.9 rushing yds/g).
The Golden Hurricane are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games in November & 24-8 ATS in their last 32 games vs. a team with a winning record. The Mustangs are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games & 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games as a home favorite.
SMU has been great at home this season, however, this is still a team that has dropped 3 of their last 4 games and I think will have a bit of a hard time bouncing back after an embarrassing loss against Cincinnati last week. Tulsa has won 4 of their last 6 games and should be extra motivated to win this game so they can become bowl eligible. Tulsa has been led by their defense that is holding their opponents to an average of just 17.8 ppg over their last 4 games and as I think that the Golden Hurricane keep this one competitive, I think the play here is to take Tulsa and the points. Good Luck!
