The Texas State Bobcats will travel to Centennial Bank Stadium to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Texas State Bobcats lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 3-8 on the season after being defeated by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 35-21, this past Saturday. Texas State kept the game competitive after tying the game at 21-all midway through the 3rd quarter on a 38-yard TD reception by Marcell Barbee, however, the Bobcats defense had no answers for Grayson McCall down the stretch and allowed the Chanticleers to pull away by scoring 14-unanswered points to close out the game. Texas State was outgained by Coastal Carolina by a 498-301 margin and didn’t force a turnover in the loss. Leading the way for the Bobcats was RB Calvin Hill who had 100 rushing yards 7 1 TD on 12 carries.
On the season, Texas State is averaging 22.8 ppg on 343.1 total yards per game (198.2 passing yds/g; 144.9 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Texas State has been led by the RB duo of Calvin Hill (116 att, 573 yards, 2 TD) & Jahmyl Jeter (80 att, 346 yards, 7 TD). QB Brady McBride has completed 60.1% of his passes for 1512 yards, 12 TD, & 10 INT. The top receiving threats for the Bobcats have been Javen Banks (36 rec, 553 yards, 5 TD), Marcell Barbee (40 rec, 499 yards, 5 TD), Ashtyn Hawkins (25 rec, 242 yards, TD), & Trevis Graham Jr. (16 rec, 223 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, Texas State is allowing their opponents to average 34.0 ppg on 426.7 total yards per game (244.1 passing yds/g; 182.6 rushing yds/g).
The Arkansas State Red Wolves dropped to 2-9 on the season after being defeated by the Georgia State Panthers, 28-20, this past Saturday. Arkansas State had trouble getting their offense going against the Georgia State and could not fight back after back-to-back TD by the Panthers early in the 4th quarter gave Georgia State a 28-13 lead with 12:24 left in regulation. Arkansas State won the turnover battle by a 3-2 margin, however, was outgained by Georgia State by a 434-270 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Red Wolves was WR Lincoln Pare who had 6 receptions for 118 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Arkansas State is averaging 25.5 ppg on 387.4 total yards per game (316.4 passing yds/g; 71.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Arkansas State has been led by QB Layne Hatcher who has completed 57.9% of his passes for 2146 yards, 17 TD, & 13 INT. The top receiving threats for the Red Wolves have been Corey Rucker (51 rec, 741 yards, 8 TD), Te’Vailance Hunt (51 rec, 740 yards, 6 TD), & Jeff Foreman (30 rec, 532 yards, 2 TD), & Dahu Green (14 rec, 215 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the Arkansas State backfield has been Lincoln Pare who has 380 rushing yards & 2 TD on 93 carries while also hauling in 26 receptions for 280 yards & 2 TD.
Defensively, Arkansas State is allowing their opponents to average 39.9 ppg on 521.6 total yards per game (255.3 passing yds/g; 266.4 rushing yds/g).
The Bobcats are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up loss & 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games as an underdog. The Red Wolves are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.
Arkansas State has been playing better as of late, however, this is still a defense that I just can’t trust as the Red Wolves come into this game ranked just 126th in scoring defense & 130th in total defense. Texas State, outside of their game at Louisiana, has been very competitive in conference play this season despite their 2-5 conference record and as I think the offense will have no trouble putting up points in this one, I think the play here is to take Texas State and the points. Good Luck!
