The Navy Midshipmen and Temple Owls face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. When these two teams faced off last year it was Navy that came away with the 31-29 victory.
Navy has really struggled this season sitting with a 2-8 record overall but they have been more competitive as of late. In the last game against East Carolina, Navy put up 35 points but the defense gave up 38 points. Navy overall this season is averaging 18.6 points while their defense is giving up 31.2 points per game. The Midshipmen are averaging 230.3 yards per game which is 10th best in college football. The back has been fullback Isaac Ruoss who has rushed for 542 yards and three touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the Temple Owls who sit with a 3-8 record overall and they have gone 2-9 against the spread. In the last game against Tulsa it was once again the offense that was the issue putting up only 10 points. Temple is averaging 16.5 points while their defense is giving up 37.5 points per game. Under center for Temple is Justin Lynch who has thrown for 793 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. Edward Saydee has been the best player for Temple on the ground, but he has put up only 330 yards and three touchdowns.
Navy is 8-0 against the spread in their last eight games against a team with a losing record. Temple is 0-6 against the spread in their last six games overall. The under is 4-0 in Navy’s last four games as a favorite. Temple is 0-6 against the spread in their last six games as an underdog.
These are both offenses who have struggled this year, but Navy has shown at least some life as of late on that side of the ball. I expect Navy is going to control the pace with their run game, and Temple is going to have issues scoring. Back Navy to cover the spread. In terms of the total I don't expect a whole lot of scoring and the under will cash.
Shane’s Pick Navy
