The Houston Cougars and UConn Huskies face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium. These are two teams who are on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of success this season.
Houston has had quite the season sitting with a 10-1 record and they will look to continue that success in this game. In the last game against Memphis it was again the offense that found success putting up 31 points. Houston is averaging 38.2 points while their defense is giving up 20.09 points per game. Under center for Houston is Clayton Tune who has thrown for 2.172 yards, 22 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Alton McCaskill has been the top running back rushing for 790 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the UConn Huskies who sit with a 1-10 record and they have gone 5-6 against the spread. In the last game against UCF the defense struggled again giving up 49 points. Quarterback Steven Krajewsi didn’t do the team any favors throwing for 174 yards, zero touchdowns, three interceptions. UConn is averaging 15.5 points while their defense is giving up 37.9 points per game. The biggest issue for this team has been the defense and they are going to need the defense to be a lot better in this game.
Houston is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. UConn is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games as an underdog. The over is 4-1 in Houston’s last five road games. The under is 2-9 in UConn’s last 28 games as a home underdog. The under is 27-11 in Huskies' last 38 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
UConn might have some hope with their new coaching staff coming in, but I still don’t trust them to find any sort of success in this game. Houston has been an elite offensive team and UConn’s defense has been an issue all games. Look for Houston to put up lat least 42 points, and the Cougars will cover the spread.
