The North Carolina Tar Heels will travel to Carter-Finley Stadium to take on the 20th ranked NC State Wolfpack this Friday night in College Football action.
The North Carolina Tar Heels improve to 6-5 on the season after defeating the Wofford Terriers, 34-14, this past Saturday. North Carolina had no trouble generating offense against Wofford and cruised to victory in the 2nd half after a 14-yard TD run by British Brooks gave the Tar Heels a 27-7 lead early in the 3rd quarter. North Carolina outgained Wofford by a 519-302 margin and won the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Tar Heels was RB British Brooks had 89 rushing yards & 2 TD on 7 carries.
On the season, North Carolina is averaging 37.0 ppg on 482.0 total yards per game (270.2 passing yds/g; 211.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, North Carolina has been led by QB Sam Howell who has completed 63.5% of his passes for 2704 yards, 22 TD, & 8 INT while also rushing for 728 yards & 9 TD on 151 carries. Howell missed last game due to an upper-body injury, however, as he was a gametime decision last week, I’d be shocked if he is not behind center for this matchup. The top receiving threats for the Tar Heels have been Josh Downs (90 rec, 1198 yards, 8 TD), Antoine Green (26 rec, 528 yards, 5 TD), Kamari Morales (22 rec, 194 yards, 5 TD), & Garrett Walston (17 rec, 147 yards, TD). Leading the way for the Tar Heels backfield has been Ty Chandler who has 1004 rushing yards & 13 TD on 167 carries.
Defensively, North Carolina is allowing their opponents to average 31.4 ppg on 412.5 total yards per game (236.8 passing yds/g; 175.6 rushing yds/g).
The 20th ranked NC State Wolfpack improved to 8-3 on the season after defeating the Syracuse Orange, 41-17, this past Friday. NC State was outstanding defensively against Syracuse and had no trouble picking up the win after going into halftime with a 28-7 lead. NC State outgained Syracuse by a 399-236 margin and won the turnover battle by a1-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Wolfpack was QB Devin Leary who completed 17 of 24 passes for 303 yards & 2 TD.
On the season, NC State is averaging 33.0 ppg on 419.5 total yards per game (292.2 passing yds/g; 127.4 rushing yds/g). Offensively, NC State has been led by QB Devin Leary who has completed 65.8% of his passes for 3186 yards, 31 TD, & 5 INT. The top receiving threats for the Wolfpack have been Emeka Emezie (55 rec, 690 yards, 4 TD), Devin Carter (31 rec, 556 yards, 6 TD), & Thayer Thomas (47 rec, 548 yards, 7 TD). Leading the way for the NC State backfield has been Zonovan Knight (131 att, 684 yards, 3 TD) & Ricky Person Jr. (124 att, 573 yards, 5 TD).
Defensively, NC State is holding their opponents to an average of 18.7 ppg on 321.4 total yards per game (213.1 passing yds/g; 108.3 rushing yds/g).
Over is 7-2 in the Tar Heels last 7 games as a road underdog & 9-1 in the Tar Heels last 10 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. Over is 4-1 in the Wolfpack last 5 games following a ATS win & 4-1 in the Wolfpack last 5 home games.
North Carolina has had a down season, however, their offense is still as explosive as ever as the Tar Heels come into this game ranked 14th in scoring offense & 10th total offense. NC State has also been solid offensively, ranking 32nd in scoring offense and has been even better at home, averaging 36.8 ppg this season. NC State does have a solid defense, however, the Wolfpack struggled against Wake Forest recently, allowing 45 points and as I think this is going to be a high-scoring, back-and-forth game, I think Over is the play. Good Luck!
