The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will travel to Beaver Stadium to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights improved to 5-5 on the season after defeating the Indiana Hoosiers, 38-3, this past Saturday. Rutgers was outstanding defensively against Indiana and had no trouble pulling away after a 10-yard TD run by Aaron Young gave the Scarlet Knights a 24-3 lead with 12:27 left in the 3rd quarter. Rutgers outgained Indiana by a 320-262 margin and won the turnover battle by a 6-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Scarlet Knights was RB Isaih Pacheco who had 79 rushing yards & 2 TD on 21 carries.
On the season, Rutgers is averaging 23.0 ppg on 3263.5 total yards per game (180.8 passing yds/g; 145.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Rutgers has been led by the RB trio of Isaih Pacheco (146 att, 554 yards, 5 TD), Kyle Monangai (59 att, 227 yards, 4 TD), & Aaron Young (36 att, 136 yards, 3 TD). QB Noah Vedral has completed 60.5% of his passes for 1590 yards, 7 TD, & 5 INT while also rushing for 267 yards & 2 TD. The top receivers for the Scarlet Knights have been Bo Melton (48 rec, 523 yards, 3 TD), Shameen Jones (31 rec, 287 yards) & Brandon Sanders (15 rec, 174 yards, TD).
Defensively, Rutgers is allowing their opponents to average 22.7 ppg on 372.0 total yards per game (218.0 passing yds/g; 154.0 rushing yds/g).
The Penn State Nittany Lions dropped to 6-4 on the season after being defeated by the 6th ranked Michigan Wolverines, 21-17, this past Saturday. Penn State fought back from a 14-6 deficit to take a 17-14 lead with 5:55 left in the 4th quarter, however, the Nittany Lions could not hand on for the victory after Michigan scored the game-winning TD on a 47-yard TD reception by Erick Ali with 3:29 in regulation. Penn State was outgained by Michigan by a 361-332 margin and committed 1 turnover in the loss. Leading the way for the Nittany Lions was QB Sean Clifford who completed 23 of 43 passes for 205 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Penn State is averaging 25.8 ppg on 378.9 total yards per game (272.2 passing yds/g; 106.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Penn State has been led by QB Sean Clifford who has completed 62.7% of his passes for 2576 yards, 17 TD, & 6 INT. The top receiving threats for the Nittany Lions have been Jahan Dotson (80 rec, 993 yards, 9 TD), Parker Washington (47 rec, 590 yards, 2 TD), KeAndre Lambert-Smith (28 rec, 419 yards, 2 TD), & Brenton Strange (15 rec, 163 yards, 3 TD). Leading the way for the Nittany Lions backfield has been the duo of Keyvone Lee (76 att, 375 yards, TD) & Noah Cain (93 att, 293 yards, 4 TD).
Defensively, Penn State is holding their opponents to an average of 17.1 ppg on 351.7 total yards per game (213.9 passing yds/g; 137.8 rushing yds/g).
The Scarlet Knights are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 road games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 November games. The Nittany Lions are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Rutgers is coming off a solid victory against Indiana, however, this is a team that has struggled against the top-tier competition of the Big Ten, which includes losing to Ohio State & Wisconsin by a combined score of 104-16. Penn State certainly has some issues on the offensive end, especially in their running game, however, they should have success through the air against the Scarlett Knights with Sean Clifford & Jahan Dotson. Rutgers offense is going to struggle to put up double-digit points on the road against a solid Penn State defense and as I think the Nittany Lions offense will find some success, I think Penn State wins this one by three touchdowns and covers this spread. Good Luck!
