The Purdue Boilermakers and Northwestern Wildcats face off on Saturday in a Big Ten college football showdown at Wrigley Field. When these two teams faced off in 2020 it was Northwestern that came away with the 27-20 victory.
The Northwestern Wildcats are having a down season sitting with a 3-7 record overall and the offense has been a big issue. In the last game against the WIsconsin Badgers, the offense could only manage seven points. Northwestern is averaging 17.1 points while the defense is giving up 26.9 points per game. The biggest issue has been the quarterback position and if they want any chance in this game they need to find more production from whoever is under center. The top player on the team has been running back Evan Hull who has rushed for 812 yards and five touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the Purdue Boilermakers who sit with a 6-4 record overall and they have had some very impressive wins. In the last game against Ohio State, the offense was good, scoring 31 points, but the defense gave up 59 points. Purdue is averaging 25.4 points while their defense is giving up 22.5 points per game. Aidan O’Connell has been a star under center throwing for 2,477 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. King Doerue has also found success on the ground rushing for 421 yards and two touchdowns.
Purdue is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games against a team with a losing record. Northwestern is 3-7 against the spread in their last ten games. The under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings. The road team is 8-1 in the last nine meetings between the two teams.
Northwestern’s offense is a big issue, and they are going to have all kinds of issues getting the job done. Look for Purdue to run up the score, and the Wildcats aren’t going to keep this one close. Back Purdue against the spread.
