The New Mexico State Aggies and Kentucky Wildcats face off on Saturday in a non-conference college football showdown at Kroger Field.
The New Mexico State Aggies have really struggled so far again this season sitting with a 1-9 record overall. One problem for this team is they have played a tough schedule, and in the last game against Alabama they lost 59-3. New Mexico State is averaging 21.1 points while their defense is giving up 40.2 points per game.Under center for NM State is Jonah Johnson who has thrown for 2,104 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Juwuan Price has also been good on the ground rushing for 485 yards and six touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kentucky Wildcats who sit with a 7-3 record but they have lost three of the last four games. In the last game against Vanderbilt, they did score 34 points and came away with the victory. Kentucky is averaging 29.2 points while their defense is giving up 22.8 points per game. Under center for Kentucky is Will Levis who has thrown for 2,025 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Running back Chris Rodriguez Jr has also been good on the ground rushing for 1,032 yards and six touchdowns.
New Mexico State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games. Kentucky is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games following a straight-up win. The over is 10-4 in New Mexico State’s last 14 games against the SEC. The over is 5-1 in Kentucky’s last six home games.
Kentucky is no doubt the better team, but New Mexico State is getting too many points in this game. I expect the Aggies will score at least 10 points, and that will be enough for them to cover the spread. Kentucky will score but this isn't a game where they get over 40 points. Back New Mexico State against the spread.
