The Florida Atlantic Owls will travel to Joe Aillet Stadium to take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Florida Atlantic Owls lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 5-5 on the season after being defeated by the Old Dominion Monarchs, 30-16, this past Saturday. Florida Atlantic struggled on the offensive end against the Old Dominion defense and could not fight back after a 14-yard TD reception by Isiah Paige gave the Monarchs a double-digit lead with just 4:49 left in the 4th quarter. Florida Atlantic was outgained by Old Dominion by a 454-308 margin and committed 2 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Owls was RB Johnny Ford who had 101 rushing yards & 1 TD on 19 carries.
On the season, Florida Atlantic is averaging 27.3 ppg on 408.6 total yards per game (237.8 passing yds/g; 170.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Florida Atlantic has been led by QB N’Kosi Perry who has completed 59.3% of his passes for 2221 yards, 17 TD, & 4 INT while also rushing for 4 TD. The top receiving threats for the Owls have been LaJohntay Wester (45 rec, 560 yards, 4 TD), Brandon Robinson (28 rec, 408 yards, 4 TD), & Je’Quan Burton (19 rec, 362 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the Florida Atlantic backfield has been Johnny Ford who has 735 rushing yards & 5 TD on 109 carries while also hauling in 17 receptions for 227 yards & 2 TD.
Defensively, Florida Atlantic is holding their opponents to an average of 23.0 ppg on 394.6 total yards per game (228.2 passing yds/g; 166.4 rushing yds/g).
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers won their 5th straight game and improved to 6-4 on the season after defeating the Rice Owls, 42-21, this past Saturday. Western Kentucky had no trouble generating offense against Rice and held on in the 2nd half for the victory after going into halftime with a 28-0 lead. Western Kentucky outgained Rice by a 587-504 margin and won the turnover battle by a 5-4 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Hilltoppers was Bailey Zappe who completed 34 of 42 passes for 482 yards, 5 TD, & 1 INT.
On the season, Western Kentucky is averaging 41.4 ppg on 520.8 total yards per game (423.7 passing yds/g; 97.1 rushing yds/g). The top receiving threats for Zappe and the Hilltoppers have been Jerreth Sterns (111 rec, 1368 yards, 11 TD), Mitchell Tinsley (53 rec, 878 yards, 8 TD), Malachi Corley (59 rec, 557 yards, 5 TD), & Daewood Davis (29 rec, 477 yards, 6 TD). The Owls are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Hilltoppers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Florida Atlantic is led by their defense, however, it’s not encouraging to see the Owls allowing their last three opponents to post 28+ points against them, especially when they are going on the road to take on the top-rated Western Kentucky passing attack that has just been rolling through opposing defenses as of late. Western Kentucky has been playing much better defensively as of late, holding opponents to an average of just 18.8 ppg during their 5-game winning streak, and as I think the Hilltoppers have no issue posting another 40+ points in this one, I think Western Kentucky wins this one by at least 2 TD and covers this spread. Good Luck!
