The South Alabama Jaguars dropped to 5-4 on the season after being defeated by the Troy Trojans, 31-24, this past Saturday. South Alabama had no answers early for the Trojans on either end of the field and could not fight all the way back after the Trojans took a 31-7 lead with 4:55 left in the 2nd quarter. South Alabama outgained Troy by a 335-308 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin in the loss. The Appalachian State Mountaineers won their 3rd straight game and improved to 7-2 on the season after defeating the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 48-14, this past Saturday. Appalachian State dominated Arkansas State on both ends of the field and was able to pull away in the 2nd half after a 27-yard TD run by Camerun Peoples gave the Mountaineers a 38-14 lead with 2:59 left in the 3rd quarter. Appalachian State outgained Arkansas State by a 461-199 margin and won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was RB Nate Noel who had 122 rushing yards & 1 TD on 23 carries.

The Jaguars are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games on fieldturf. The Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning record.
Appalachian State has been playing great since handing Coastal Carolina their first loss a few weeks ago, however, this is a lot of points to cover against an above average South Alabama team that had been solid on both sides of the ball. Appalachian State had a great rushing attack, however, the strength of the Jaguars defense is against the run as they rank 21st in rushing defense and as I think Jake Bentley and the South Alabama passing attack will be able to put up some points on a Mountaineers defense, I think the Jaguars will do enough in this one to cover with the large number of points. Good Luck!
