The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Virginia Cavaliers face off on Saturday in a non-conference showdown at Scott Stadium. 

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish comes into this game with an 8-1 record overall and they have been playing some really good football heading into this game. In the last game against Navy, Notre Dame came away with the 34-6 victory. Notre Dame is averaging 32.8 points while their defense is giving up 22.4 points per game. Jack Coan under center has been good, throwing for 1,879 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Kyren Williams has also been strong on the ground rushing for 802 yards and nine touchdowns. In this game it’s going to be about the offense being strong early. 

On the other side of this matchup is the Virginia Cavaliers who sit with a 6-3 record overall and the last game was an ugly one. Virginia scored 49 points but their defense gave up 66 points and that led to the defeat. Virginia is averaging 38.9 points while the defense is giving up 30.8 points per game. Under center for Virginia is Brennan Armstrong and he has thrown for 3,557 yards, 27 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The running game doesn’t have a true bell clow, and they are going to need to have a balanced attack in this game.

Notre Dame is 8-0 against the spread in their last eight games in November. Virginia is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games in November. The over is 4-1 in Notre Dame’s last five games against the ACC. The over is 6-0 in the Cavaliers last six games against Independents. The under is 4-1 in Virginia’s last five home games. The under is 7-3 in Virginia’s last 10 games overall. 

Virginia has had a strong offense, but their defense has been an issue and that is going to continue in this game. Look for both teams to score plenty of points, and defense isn’t going to be great, by either team. Back the over to cash. In terms of the side, I expect Notre Dame will cover the spread.
