The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers face off on Saturday in an SEC college football showdown at Jordan-Hare Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020, it was Auburn that came away with the 24-10 victory.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs come into this game with a 5-4 record overall and they have won two of their last three games. In the last game though against Arkansas, they couldn’t make enough plays late and that led to the 31-28 defeat, Mississippi State is averaging 28 points while their defense is giving up 25.3 points per game. Under center for Mississippi State is Will Rogers and he has thrown for 3,307 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. This is a team that doesn’t run a ton, and if they want to win this game it’s going to need to be Rogers that has a big game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Auburn Tigers who sit with a 6-3 record overall but they are coming off a very disappointing loss. The offense against Texas A&M could only manage three points, and that led to the 17 point defeat. Auburn is averaging 31.3 points while the defense is giving up 19.8 points per game. Auburn is led under center by Bo Nix and he has thrown for 1,917 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions. Tank Bigsby has also rushed 140 times for 735 yards and seven touchdowns. Auburn is going to need Bo Nix to be better in this game, and put pressure on the Bulldogs defense.
Mississippi State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games. Auburn is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games as a home favorite. The Bulldogs are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against the Tigers. The under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings.
When these two teams have played the under has been a strong play and points are going to be hard to come by in this game. Look for both defenses to step up, especially Auburn’s and this is going to be a lower-scoring game. Back the under.
