The Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Longhorns face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Texas Memorial Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2019 it was Texas that came away with the 50-48 victory.
The Kansas Jayhawks won their opening game of the season against South Dakota, but since that point it’s been a major struggle. The offense hasn’t been good, and their defense can’t really slow down anyone. Kansas is averaging 15.1 points while their defense is giving up 42.8 points per game. Jason Bean and Jalon Daniels both played under center for Kansas in the last game, This is a team that really doesn’t have a solid penalty, so both guys will probably play again in this game. If Kansas wants any chance, they need the defense to be good, to take the pressure off the offense.
On the other side of this matchup is the Texas Longhorns who are having another down season sitting with a 4-5 record. In the last game against Iowa State, the offense could only manage seven points, and that led to the defeat. Texas Tech on the season is averaging 35.8 points while their defense is giving up 29.8 points per game. Casey Thompson is dealing with a thumb injury and it’s unclear if he will be able to go in this game. If he can’t go it will be Hudson Card who threw for 101 yards. If Card does get the tart, this is probably a great team to make another start against.
Kansas is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games against teams with a losing record. Texas is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games in November. The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between the two teams in Texas. The Jayhawks are 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings.
The Jayhawks have found success against Texas in terms of keeping games close and it’s not going to be any different in this game. This is another game where the Texas offense is going to struggle and the Jayhawks will cover the spread.
