The Colorado Buffaloes will travel to the Rose Bowl to take on the UCLA Bruins this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Colorado Buffaloes snapped a 2-game losing streak and improved to 3-6 on the season after defeating the Oregon State Beavers, 37-34 (2OT), this past Saturday. Colorado had their best offensive performance of the season against the Beavers and was able to win it in the 2nd OT on a 43-yard FG after the Beavers missed their FG attempt in the opening possession. Colorado outgained Oregon State by a 475-392 margin while also winning the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Buffaloes was QB Brandon Lewis who completed 15 of 24 passes for 170 yards & 3 TD while also rushing for a TD.
On the season, Colorado is averaging 19.1 ppg on 266.7 total yards per game (134.8 passing yds/g; 131.9 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Colorado has been led by the backfield duo of Jarek Broussard (114 att, 510 yards, 2 TD) & Alex Fontenot (72 att, 246 yards, 3 TD). QB Brendon Lewis has completed 59.6% of his passes for 1186 yards, 10 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 143 yards & 1 TD. The top receiving threats for the Buffaloes have been Brenden Rice (18 rec, 285 yards, 3 TD), Brady Russell (15 rec, 204 yards), Daniel Arias (11 rec, 136 yards, 1 TD), & Montana Lemonious-Craig (10 rec, 123 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, Colorado is allowing their opponents to average 25.7 ppg on 408.8 total yards per game (231.6 passing yds/g; 177.2 rushing yds/g).
The UCLA Bruins lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 5-4 on the season after being defeated by the Utah Utes, 44-24, on October 30th. UCLA struggled defensively on the road against Utah and could not fight back after a 12-yard TD run by the Utes Cameron Rising gave Utah a 35-17 lead with 14:55 left in the 4th quarter. UCLA was outgained by Utah by a 469-411 margin while also losing the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Bruins was QB Ethan Garbers who completed 27 of 44 passes for 265 yards, 2 TD, & 1 INT.
On the season, UCLA is averaging 32.4 ppg on 415.7 total yards per game (216.0 passing yds/g; 199.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UCLA has ben led by QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson who has completed 59.4% of his passes for 163.9 yards, 14 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 363 yards & 6 TD. Thompson-Robinson missed UCLA’s last game with a thumb injury and is questionable for this matchup. If Thompson-Robinson can’t go, UCLA will go with Ethan Garbers (60.8 Comp %, 305 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT). The top receiving threats for the Bruins have been Kyle Phillips (39 rec, 528 yards, 6 TD), Greg Dulcich (31 rec, 477 yards, 4 TD), Chase Cota (15 rec, 243 yards, 1 TD), & Kam Brown (13 rec, 199 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the UCLA backfield has been the duo of Zach Charbonnet (136 att, 797 yards, 8 TD) & Brittain Brown (96 att, 557 yards, 6 TD).
Defensively, UCLA is allowing their opponents to average 28.2 ppg on 395.1 total yards per game (278.6 passing yds/g; 116.6 rushing yds/g).
The Buffaloes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 November games, however, are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a road underdog. The Bruins are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a bye week.
UCLA is no doubt the better team, however, this is a lot of points for the Bruins to cover considering that the Bruins defense has allowed opponents to average 31.7 ppg and that I think they will once again be without Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Colorado is a team that has really struggled offensively this season, however, Brandon Lewis has looked better as of late, throwing for 6 TD’s over his last two games and I think should continue to have some success against a UCLA pass defense that ranks just 119th in CFB. Colorado is not going to win this game, however, as I think they can keep this one competitive, I think they at worst lose by two TD’s and cover this spread. Good Luck!
